Terms of Service

Last updated: May 20, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Utah News iOS app and our backend services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by App Launchers, LLC. By installing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 18, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. The Service is not directed to children under 13 (see our Privacy Policy).

2. Your account

You may use the Service as an anonymous guest or sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account.

3. Editorial content

Utah News surfaces a mix of (a) primary-source content ingested verbatim from local government, school district, and institutional websites, (b) link-out cards pointing to other outlets' reporting, and (c) AI-synthesized articles produced from multiple corroborating sources. AI-synthesized content is labeled as such in the app. We do not guarantee that any individual article is current, complete, or free from error, and you should treat the Service as a starting point — not the final word — when an item materially affects you. Always verify against the original source linked from each article.

4. Submissions and user content

When you submit a story tip, URL, photo, audio recording, contribution, or other content ("Submission"), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display the Submission in connection with operating the Service and producing news coverage derived from it. You represent that you have the right to grant this license — i.e. the Submission is your own work, or you have permission from the rights holder, or the content is in the public domain. We may remove Submissions at our discretion, including content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, infringing, or that we judge to be outside our editorial focus on Utah news.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) submit content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or infringes another party's rights; (b) impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone; (c) scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to derive source code from the Service; (d) interfere with the operation of the Service or its security features; (e) use the Service to send spam or unsolicited communications.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, branding, and editorially-curated organization of public-source material, is owned by App Launchers, LLC and is protected by U.S. copyright and trademark law. Articles surfaced in the Service that are primary-source content remain the property of their original publishers; we display them under fair-use and link-out principles. Articles labeled AI-synthesized are our editorial work product.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or reliability of any article surfaced in the Service.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, App Launchers, LLC AND ITS AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice. You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections 4 (license grant), 6 (intellectual property), 7 (disclaimers), 8 (limitation of liability), 10 (governing law), and any other provisions that by their nature should survive termination, will survive.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising under or relating to these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the app on next launch. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
