Utah Mountains May Hide Billion Tons of Ice in Rock Glaciers
University of Utah researchers have discovered that Utah's mountain ranges may contain up to 1 billion metric tons of hidden ice within rock glaciers. Using a novel 3D imaging technique, scientists mapped the Timpanogos Rock Glacier, revealing it is 83% ice and could represent a vital water resource for the arid state.
