4. Lunch Schedule
Please review this year's lunch schedule:

Lunch is determined by a student's 4th period teacher.
If your child's 4th period teacher is listed under 1st Lunch, your child will attend lunch after 3rd period and then report to 4th period afterward.
If your child's 4th period teacher is listed under 2nd Lunch, your child will attend 4th period first and then go to lunch afterward.
5. Safety Drill
We will conduct a school safety drill on Monday, August 24. During this drill, students and staff will practice our evacuation procedures.

We are here to support students and families with scheduling and other school counseling needs.
Schedule Changes
Counselors are currently prioritizing students who:
Have incomplete schedules
Submitted a homeschool exemption form
All other schedule change requests will begin being reviewed August 21.
Please note that we carefully build student schedules based on submitted course requests and student needs. Because our master schedule is built around these requests, schedule changes are generally considered only for the following reasons:
The student's schedule is incomplete.
The student was assigned an elective they did not request.
An IEP or Section 504 accommodation requires a schedule change.
The student has completed the district Opt-Out process (PCSD Policy 4435 F1) or has a partial schedule due to a homeschool exemption.
An administrative recommendation requires a change.
Schedule changes are generally not made for:
A different lunch period
Being in classes with friends
A different teacher
Changing out of an elective the student selected
Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure every student has a complete and appropriate schedule.
7. Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Hello Centennial community! As the PTA board at CMS, we are so excited for this school year! We will have a table set up for Back to School with a little something for everyone who becomes a member, and a drawing with some fun prizes (did someone say squishy butter?!)

8. Message from School Resource Officer Scott Williams – New Utah E-Bike Laws
Dear Centennial Families,
I'm Officer Scott Williams, the School Resource Officer at Centennial Middle School. I am excited for another school year and wanted to share important information regarding Utah's new e-bike legislation (HB 381).
Beginning this year, many electric bicycles that students previously rode to school are now legally classified as e-motorcycles. If a device can travel 20 mph without pedaling, it is considered an e-motorcycle. Operating one requires:
A driver's license
Motorcycle endorsement
Registration
Insurance
Because middle school students are not eligible for these requirements, they generally cannot legally ride these devices to school.
Even if a device qualifies as a true Class I or Class II e-bike (pedal-assisted and limited to 20 mph), additional restrictions apply:
Students ages 8–14 must be accompanied by a parent while riding.
Riders under age 21 must wear an approved helmet.
Students who violate these laws may receive a citation and their device may be impounded.

12. School Community Council Parent Self-Nominations

13. District Assessment Calendar & NWEA Testing
Students will begin NWEA testing on Monday, August 24.
Students will take NWEA Math and Science testing the week of August 24.
Students will take the NWEA Reading assessment August 31 through September 8.
Make-up testing will be September 9 through 11.

14. Student Chromebooks
Students will receive an individual Chromebook for the 2026–2027 school year. Chromebooks will be distributed during English Language Arts classes on August 19–20. Please review the district's Electronic Device User Agreement:

15. Attendance – Excusing Student Absences
Please excuse student absences within one week of the absence. To report an absence, contact our Attendance Secretary, Selene Castro, by:

16. Safe Routes to School
If your child walks, rides a bicycle, or uses a micromobility device (such as a scooter) to travel to and from school, please review Centennial Middle School's approved Safe Routes Plan.

18. Timpview Mini & Youth Cheer Clinic
Dates: August 26–27
Youth Clinic: 4:00 p.m.
Cheer Clinic: 5:00–7:00 p.m.
Performance: August 28 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.

Participants will learn cheers, dances, and jumps from the Timpview High School Cheer Team.
