The Town of Alta provides several recreational venues for both seasonal and year-round use. These locations include the Alta Town Park, Memorial Grove, and various opportunities within the alpine setting of the Albion Basin.
The Alta Town Park is available during summer months from 6 a.m. to 10:00 PM. Located near the west end of the Alta Ski Area Transfer Tow, the park features a volleyball court, bench seating, barbecue grills, and covered picnic tables for small group gatherings.
While there is no vehicle parking on site, visitors may drive in to drop off heavier items. Access to the park is available through the Wildcat Parking Lot near Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge. Groups of 8 or more people must remove all garbage generated by their group. For groups exceeding 75 people, a permit from the Town Office is required to ensure public safety and health facilities, provided the group notifies the Town at least 7 days in advance.
The Alta Memorial Grove is situated approximately 1.5 miles up the Albion Basin Road, which is open during the summer only. This scenic area features a granite monument made from stone from lower Little Cottonwood Canyon, a bench, and a 300-foot path leading to a meadow. Due to limited parking and the sensitive alpine environment, group sizes at Memorial Grove are limited.
Year-round recreation in Alta includes winter activities such as downhill skiing at Alta Ski Area, alpine ski-touring, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing on the Albion Basin Summer Road. During the summer, the area is used for hiking, biking, camping, and wildlife viewing. For information regarding summer maps and access to the Albion Basin Campground or Summer Road, the Alta Ski Area serves as a primary resource.
