The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is offering free assistance to help Utah businesses navigate the government marketplace. Jack Schons, the PTAC Eastern Utah Region Manager, recently shared how the program supports local companies in finding and bidding on procurement opportunities with federal, state, and local government entities.
As a service provided by the US Defense Department and the Utah Governor's office, PTAC offers individual counseling to help businesses identify matches, market to the government, and prepare solicitation documents. The program also maintains a database that can send potential project leads directly to clients via email based on their specific business criteria.
In San Juan County, PTAC has seen significant activity, with nearly $1 million in federal contract awards granted over the past 18 months. Schons noted that while grants awarded during this period have exceeded that amount, there is potential for even more government business in the region.
PTAC has expanded its reach across the seven easternmost Utah counties, adding over 100 new clients in the last two and a half years. Of those new clients, 30 were added from San Juan County alone.
Schons, who relocated to Price in 2018 after a 30-year career in sales and management, suggests that businesses can augment their existing operations with government contracts without needing to realign their entire business model. He recommends starting slowly to explore these new resources.
