The Fillmore City Council has adopted Ordinance 26-03, which amends Fillmore City Municipal Code § 9.1.1 to adopt the Utah Wildland Urban Interface Code. According to a notice on the city's website, the measure was passed to promote life safety and property protection in designated wildland-urban interface areas within the city.
The ordinance adopts the 2006 edition of the International Code Council's Utah Wildland Urban Interface Code, including any alternatives or amendments approved by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands. This adoption serves as a local amendment to the State Construction Code, as authorized by Utah Code § 15A-2-103.
The code applies to construction regulated by the State Construction Code within wildland-urban interface areas designated by the city. The city intends to identify these applicable areas through an official city map or other designation adopted in accordance with applicable law.
The adoption follows a recommendation from the Fillmore City Planning Commission to incorporate the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code into the municipal code. Under the new ordinance, the City Recorder is authorized to make non-substantive formatting, numbering, and cross-reference corrections to integrate the ordinance into the Fillmore City Municipal Code.
A copy of the adopted code will be maintained for public examination in the office of the City Recorder. The City Recorder is also responsible for depositing a copy of the ordinance in that office and publishing a short summary as a Class A notice, as required by Utah Code § 10-3-711.
The ordinance takes effect upon the completion of the required publication and filing requirements. The City Council includes Mayor Curt Hare and City Recorder Kevin Orton, with voting members Dennis Alldredge, Amber Rausch, Gene Larsen, Kyle Stevens, and Michael Winget recorded as having participated in the process.
