Utah State soccer sophomore midfielder/forward Hadli Barrera has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 4, according to an Oct. 5 statement from Utah State University Athletics. The award is determined by a state-wide media panel.
A native of Hyrum, Utah, Barrera contributed to a 2-0-0 week for the Aggies. She recorded two goals in a 2-1 victory over No. 22 Texas State on Thursday. During that match, she scored in the 72nd and 80th minutes, taking three shots with two on goal in 38 minutes of play. On Sunday, Barrera played 13 minutes as a reserve in a 3-0 win against Colorado State. Over the course of the week, she totaled two goals and three shots with two on goal in 51 total minutes.
America First Credit Union sponsors the student-athlete of the week and donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships. Other nominees for the award included Jayden Holdsworth and Mia Taylor from men's and women's cross country, Toby Heider from golf, Javen Jacobs from football, Lily LaFlesch from volleyball, and Alejandro Daniel Garcia from men's tennis.
No. 19 Utah State is scheduled to host Washington State at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field on Thursday, Oct. 8. The match is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on the Pac-12's YouTube page.
