U community tackles hunger
Office of Alumni Relations -
The University of Utah community is once again joining together to tackle hunger throughout the state of Utah through the annual food drive. Organized by the Student Alumni Board, the food drive is a longstanding tradition at the U that makes a lasting impact on communities throughout the state.
“The food drive has been a tradition of the Student Alumni Board for more than 30 years,” said Tyler Jaros, associate director of student engagement at the Office of Alumni Relations. “It’s incredible to see how much food these students raise for the Utah Food Bank and Feed U Campus pantry.”
With more than 445,000 Utahns and 1 in 5 Utah kids facing hunger, community support ensures that we can continue to address this critical issue for more generations to come. The Utah Food Bank can stretch each $1 donated into $7.23 worth of goods and services, so every donation truly has an impact.
Last year, the University of Utah community raised $13,000, equivalent to 54,000 meals.
“We have a truly outstanding group of students leading this effort,” said Kris Bosman, chief alumni relations officer at the Office of Alumni Relations. “They’ve embraced President Taylor Randall’s university-wide goal of service to our community and improving the lives of all Utahns. I couldn’t be prouder of their work and their care for fellow Utahns.”
This year, the board aims to raise 100,000 meals for our community. It’s a heavy lift, but with your help, we can make it happen! Let’s keep the momentum going and continue tackling hunger statewide—one donation at a time.
There are many ways to contribute, whether you’re looking to donate canned goods in person at Smith’s or in your neighborhood, or donate online through the Utah Food Bank donation page.
