A new mobile application has been developed to facilitate a self-guided walking tour of downtown Lehi. The project, completed by Bryant Gunnell as an Eagle Scout project, uses the PocketSights app to allow users to explore local history through their phones.
The tour covers a distance of 2.6 miles and is expected to take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. It features 16 stops, including the old Lehi Hospital, the Smuin Dance Hall, the old Lehi High School, and the first meetinghouse in Lehi for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Lara Bangerter, the director of The Lehi Historical Society and Archives, stated that the app allows anyone with a phone to take a meaningful tour of downtown Lehi. The tour's debut occurred at Lehi Heritage Day at the Legacy Center.
Users can access the Downtown Lehi, Utah, Historical Tour by downloading the free PocketSights app from the App Store. While the tour may appear automatically for those in the area, users can also find it by searching for the specific tour name. The app provides GPS guidance for both walking and driving, and allows users to view pictures and learn more about specific locations.
Gunnell worked closely with the Archives for information and photos, while his troop assisted with testing, design consultation, and summarizing information. Gunnell intends to maintain the site and hopes to add more stops in the future.
