During the October 13, 2026, Board of Education meeting, Provo City School District received updates on construction at Timpview High School and planning for the new Dixon Elementary School. Westland Construction reported continued progress across Timpview's major building additions, with the first phase of construction now tracking 28 days ahead of its original completion target. At Dixon, demolition is complete, and planning and site evaluations continue ahead of future construction.

Timpview High School
Auditorium
Foundation work for the new auditorium is nearing completion. Crews completed a critical foundation concrete pour on October 8, and a crane has been mobilized to support the next stages of construction.
Masonry work is scheduled to begin during the week of the update. The auditorium remains a central focus of the project because its construction sequence is a major factor in the overall schedule.
Band and Choral Spaces
Construction of the new band and choral spaces is moving forward, with the concrete floor slab poured and masonry work underway. Crews are also completing the initial electrical and plumbing installations, including the piping and wiring that must be placed before walls and other interior components are finished.
Automotive and Metal Shops
Foundations have been poured for the automotive and metal shop additions, and the metal shop's first concrete slab was completed on October 9.
In the automotive area, crews continue backfilling excavated sections and preparing the ground for additional concrete work. Waterproofing, insulation, and vapor barrier installation are also underway to help protect the new building spaces from moisture.
Masonry and Structural Progress
Westland also presented a three-dimensional overview of the masonry layout, illustrating how walls and structural supports will fit together throughout the new additions. With foundation and concrete work progressing, crews are beginning to move into the next visible stages of building construction.
South Retaining Wall and Walkway
Work along the south retaining wall has reached several important milestones. Grass has been planted, landscape rock has been installed, and the walkway alongside the athletic fields is now open for use.
Temporary orange fencing along the walkway serves as a courtesy barrier to protect the newly planted grass. Solar-powered temporary lights have also been installed to provide lighting until permanent light poles can be added during a later stage of construction.
Construction Schedule
Timpview's construction schedule continues to show positive progress. Westland reported that the anticipated substantial completion date for Phase 1 has moved from May 9, 2028, to May 4, 2028. That places the phase 28 days ahead of its June 1, 2028, target.
The latest schedule report shows actual construction progress at 45 percent, compared with 41 percent planned. The project received a 96 percent project health rating and an A- grade for schedule feasibility.
The auditorium remains on the project's critical path, meaning its construction timeline has a significant effect on the overall schedule. Current anticipated occupancy dates for the new spaces are:
Band and Choral: December 2027
Auditorium and Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces: July 2028
These dates remain projections and may change as construction progresses.
Construction Hours and Neighborhood Considerations
During the Board discussion, questions were raised about early-morning construction activity and noise. Project representatives acknowledged that some work has begun as early as 6:30 a.m., including an unusually early concrete pour.
The construction team emphasized its efforts to follow city noise requirements and remain mindful of disturbances to neighboring residents as work continues.
Dixon Elementary School
At the former Dixon Middle School site, demolition is complete, and the project has moved into continued design review, cost estimating, and site preparation planning for the new Dixon Elementary School.
The district previously shared preliminary architectural designs for the new school, which will serve students relocating from Timpanogos Elementary. The architectural image included in the October 13 presentation should not be considered a final design, as building details remain subject to review and change.
Design Review and Site Preparation
Architectural drawings are currently being reviewed, and project estimators are evaluating construction plans and costs. The team is also conducting constructability reviews to identify potential challenges before work begins.
Coordination with Provo City continues, particularly concerning an existing city storm drain line and soil conditions at the property. The architects and construction team are awaiting additional geotechnical information, including soil analysis, to better understand the work required to prepare the site.
Updated pricing for the storm drain and potential soil remediation work is expected toward the end of October. Additional information from these evaluations will help determine the next steps in planning and construction.
Anticipated Construction Timeline
The Dixon Elementary construction schedule is still being developed, with the district targeting an August 2028 opening for students.
Project representatives explained that the goal is to have the building ready around June 1, 2028, if possible, allowing time during the summer for the district to coordinate moving operations and prepare the school for students and staff.
Specific moving arrangements and dates have not yet been determined. The district will provide additional information as construction plans and the project schedule become more fully developed.
Note: All dates and anticipated completion points reflect the October 13, 2026, construction update and may adjust as work progresses.
