The Black Canyon Fire has grown to 3,549 acres with 26% containment, according to an undated update from the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The wildfire was caused by lightning and began on July 30, 2026.
The Manti-La Sal National Forest issued an updated temporary closure via Forest Order #04-10-26-02-03 for portions of the Ferron Ranger District. This closure includes Millers Flat (FS Road 0014) and Spring City Canyon Road (FS Road 0036). Additionally, a temporary flight restriction is in place over the fire area, and officials noted that recreational drones can force the shutdown of wildfire air operations.
Firefighting efforts involve 458 personnel, 29 engines, 14 crews, 7 aircraft, and 4 dozers. Recent incidents involving hunters entering the closure area required crews to stop aerial firefighting operations to locate and remove them from the active fire area.
The Reeder Subdivision remains under a GO evacuation order issued by the Emery County Sheriff’s Office. Residents are advised to follow all evacuation instructions and stay informed through official sources.
Weather conditions are expected to include a high-pressure front moving into the area, leading to lower relative humidity and reduced cloud cover. Temperatures and winds are expected to increase.
