University of Utah Health has named Christopher M. Hull, MD, as the interim chair for the Department of Dermatology within the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. The appointment became effective on May 1, 2026.
Dr. Hull succeeds Kristina Callis Duffin, MD, MS, who transitioned to her new role as dean of the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine.
In his new role, Dr. Hull will provide strategic and operational leadership for the department's clinical, research, and education missions. He is tasked with working alongside faculty, staff, and health system leaders to advance patient care, support dermatologic research innovation, and maintain the success of the department's training programs.
A member of the University of Utah Health faculty for over twenty years, Dr. Hull serves as a professor of dermatology and an adjunct professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases. His previous leadership roles within the department include serving as vice chair, director of clinical operations, and residency program director. He also contributes to system-level initiatives through his service on the University of Utah Medical Group Board and the institutional review board.
Bob Carter, MD, PhD, executive vice president for health sciences and CEO of University of Utah Health, stated that Dr. Hull is a respected clinician and leader who possesses deep institutional knowledge. Dr. Carter noted that Dr. Hull's experience in clinical operations, education, and research positions him to guide the department through this transition.
As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Hull focuses his clinical and research work on complex medical dermatology, specifically autoimmune and infectious skin diseases. He has led various clinical studies and served as a principal investigator for research initiatives supported by industry partners and national foundations.
Dr. Callis Duffin's tenure as chair included the launch of new fellowship programs in pediatric dermatology, allergy/immunology, and Mohs surgery. She also oversaw the development of a Center for Cutaneous Imaging and Digital Dermatopathology.
