The Bureau of Land Management has implemented fire restrictions across multiple Utah districts to prevent human-caused wildfires resulting from extreme drought, high fire danger, and increased use of public lands. The BLM is asking the public to utilize Fire Sense to help prevent these incidents.
Statewide Fireworks and Explosives Ban
A statewide fire prevention order has prohibited the use or discharge of fireworks, explosives, incendiary or chemical devices, pyrotechnic devices, exploding targets, pressurized containers, canisters, and binary explosives since June 18, 2025.
Canyon Country Land Closures
In the Canyon Country district, an amended order effective July 1, 2026, has closed specific BLM lands managed by the Monticello Field Office to public entry. This closure is intended to facilitate suppression efforts for the Babylon Fire and address public safety concerns. The closed areas include all BLM-managed lands west of Harts Draw Road and north up the Indian Creek Corridor to Indian Creek Falls, including the Shay Mesa area, Beef Basin, Dark Canyon, and Sweet Alice areas. Additionally, areas including Brushy Basin Road north to the Forest Service Boundary and Peter’s Point are closed.
Color Country Fire Closures
In the Color Country district, a closure is in effect for BLM lands managed by the Richfield Field Office due to the Cottonwood Fire. Effective June 26, 2026, all BLM lands west of Highway 89 between Bullion Canyon Road, Marysvale, and the southern Piute County border are closed to public entry.
West Desert Fire Restrictions
The West Desert district has also implemented closures to assist with the Cherry Fire. As of June 29, 2026, BLM managed lands in Juab and Tooele counties west of Highway 6 are closed to the public. This area extends from Weiss Highway north to Highway 36, then south along Highway 36 near Powell Springs Road, following the USFS boundary near Cow Hollow Road down to Coyote Knoll Road, returning to Weiss Highway and Little Sahara Main Road. While the Little Sahara Recreation Area remains accessible, the Cherry Creek area is not open to the public.
Green River and Paria Prohibitions
Various restrictions on activities are in place across the Green River and Paria River districts. Prohibited acts under current orders include all open fires of any kind, smoking except within a vehicle or enclosed area, grinding, cutting, and welding of metal, and operating internal combustion engines without a properly installed and effective spark arresting device.
Additional West Desert Prohibitions
In parts of the West Desert, additional prohibitions were implemented on June 12, 2026, including the use of any ammunition containing a steel component projectile, the use of steel component targets, and the use of sky lanterns, Chinese lanterns, fire balloons, or acetylene balloons.
