The Kansas Jayhawks are scheduled to travel to Salt Lake City to face No. 12 Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10. The contest, which is slated for a 9:25 p.m. CT kickoff, will feature two of the top defenses in the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas enters the game with a 2-2 record and 0-1 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks are coming off a 55-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State, a game in which they recorded their first shutout since 2008. During that matchup, the offense set a school record with 706 total yards, including 480 rushing yards led by Dylan Edwards, who recorded 137 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Jayhawks allowed only 138 total yards, the lowest in the Lance Leipold era.
Utah enters the matchup with a 4-0 record and 1-0 in Big 12 play. The Utes hold the conference's No. 1 scoring offense, averaging 43.3 points per game. Quarterback Devon Dampier has recorded 896 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, 135 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns through four games. Running back Wayshawn Parker has totaled 328 yards and five scores, averaging 6.6 yards per carry.
The defensive matchup features several key players. Kansas is ranked No. 1 in the league in total defense, allowing 244.8 yards per game, led by linebacker Trey Lathan with 22 tackles and defensive end Leroy Harris III, who has seven tackles-for-loss and three forced fumbles. Utah ranks No. 1 in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 10.3 points per game. The Utes' defense is led by linebacker Trey Reynolds, who has 24 tackles, and safety Jackson Bennee, who has two interceptions and three pass breakups.
The matchup will be televised by ESPN with Roy Philpott, Brock Osweiler, and Sherree Burruss on the call. This game marks the second ranked opponent Kansas has faced this season, following a previous game against Missouri. The Jayhawks have a 3-3 record in their last six games against ranked opponents, including a 2024 road win at No. 7 BYU. In their last meeting, Utah, ranked No. 14 at the time, defeated Kansas 31-21 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
