Victor Wembanyama recorded 36 points and 14 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 117-111 overtime victory against the short-handed Utah Jazz on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, in Salt Lake City.
Spurs Overcome Early Jazz Lead
The Spurs (3-2) secured their third consecutive win by overcoming an early deficit. Utah (1-4) held a lead of as many as 11 points during the contest. Devin Vassell provided a critical second scoring option for San Antonio, scoring 17 of his 21 total points after the halftime break.
While Wembanyama scored 21 points in the first half to keep the Spurs within striking distance, San Antonio trailed 55-51 at the halftime break. The Spurs eventually neutralized the Jazz in the extra period through an aggressive defense that disrupted offensive actions and forced desperate shots near the end of the shot clock.
Jazz Offense Led by George
The Utah Jazz offense was powered by a season-high 31 points from Keyonte George, though reports indicated George appeared exhausted during the final stages of regulation and overtime. Ace Bailey contributed 19 points to the Jazz effort, while rookie Darryn Peterson added 18 points before exiting the game before the end of regulation and before the overtime period began.
Brice Sensabaugh provided a momentum boost for Utah by opening the overtime period with a three-pointer. However, the Spurs responded with a 12-0 scoring run to close out the game. The Spurs' defense proved dominant in the extra period, forcing four turnovers and limiting the Jazz to just 2-for-7 shooting during overtime.
Overtime Decides Matchup
The contest remained tied late in regulation. With the Jazz trailing 105-100, Sensabaugh and George hit consecutive baskets to force the game into overtime. San Antonio missed its final four field goal attempts during regulation, including a jumper from De’Aaron Fox at the buzzer.
Injuries Impact Jazz Lineup
The Jazz entered the game significantly shorthanded, playing without three of their starting big men. Jaren Jackson is sidelined with a torn MCL in his right knee, while Lauri Markkanen is dealing with a right wrist sprain. Additionally, Jusuf Nurkic has not yet appeared this season due to a foot injury.
In contrast, the Spurs maintain one of the best health outlooks among Western Conference contenders. While Tobias Harris has not played this season because of a strained calf, the team's roster remains largely intact.
Upcoming Schedule
Looking ahead, the San Antonio Spurs are scheduled to host Minnesota on Saturday. The Utah Jazz will host Portland on Saturday.
The Jazz continue to struggle with a 1-4 start to the season.
