Pleasant Grove secured a 34-10 victory over Spanish Fork in a 5A first round playoff game on Friday, October 30, 2026. The No. 10 seed Vikings earned the road win during a rainy game to advance in the postseason.
The game began with defensive dominance from both teams in soggy conditions. Pleasant Grove opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 31-yard field goal by Ben Lyman. Spanish Fork responded early in the second quarter when Preston Jones converted a 35-yard field goal. After another Lyman field goal from 32 yards, Pleasant Grove took a 20-3 lead into halftime following two touchdown runs by Corbin Robbins, including an 8-yard pass from Cannon Jacobson.
Spanish Fork saw a momentum shift early in the second half when quarterback Nixon Warren ran for a four-yard touchdown, aided by a Jones point after, to bring the score to 20-10. However, a key turning point occurred when Spanish Fork was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct during an interception attempt by Tayvin Maldonado. Pleasant Grove head coach Jeremy LaPan noted that thwarting that possession was massive for his team. Pleasant Grove head coach Jeremy LaPan also credited his players' discipline for containing Warren.
In the final quarter, Pleasant Grove extended its lead with two touchdowns. A 22-yard diving catch by Tavake Wolfgram set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jacobson to Ryder Huntsman. Davian Akweyne then secured a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown to finalize the 34-10 score. The Viking defense also recorded an interception by Jake Bills.
Spanish Fork finished its season with a 6-5 record. The team's performance was impacted by late-season injuries, including the loss of quarterback Hawkins Rasmussen. Pleasant Grove, which has won four of its last five games, previously lost to Orem 35-10.
Pleasant Grove will next face No. 2 seed Orem, who defeated Timpview 55-7, in an intra-region playoff contest.
