Georgia ascended to No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday following its 20-17 win over Alabama, according to a report published October 11, 2026.
The Bulldogs reached the top spot for the first time since Sept. 8, 2024, receiving 66 first-place votes from a 70-member media panel. This victory marked Georgia's first win in Tuscaloosa since 2014.
Notre Dame moved up one spot to No. 2 after a 58-7 victory over Stanford. This follows a recent rout that serves as a tune-up for a top-10 matchup against BYU.
Miami holds the No. 3 position with two first-place votes. Other top-ten teams include Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, Texas, BYU, Mississippi, and Texas Tech.
Texas dropped six spots to No. 7 following a loss to rival Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Oregon was unranked for the first time in four years after a 17-15 home loss to UCLA.
Several teams saw significant movement in the rankings. UCLA moved up nine spots to No. 12 following its win over Oregon. Kentucky rose from unranked to No. 15 after a 35-34 overtime victory against LSU.
New entries into the poll include No. 21 Wake Forest, which is 5-1, and No. 25 Northwestern, the first ranking under fourth-year coach David Braun.
Teams leaving the rankings include Florida, which dropped from No. 8 to No. 16 before falling out entirely, and Pittsburgh, following a 21-17 loss to North Carolina.
The current rankings show significant conference representation. The SEC has nine teams ranked, including No. 1 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, and No. 7 Texas. The Big Ten features six teams, including No. 4 Ohio State and No. 5 Indiana.
The Big 12 includes five teams: No. 8 BYU, No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 11 Utah, No. 18 Oklahoma State, and No. 20 Houston. The ACC contains three ranked teams, while the Pac-12 has one, Boise State at No. 23. Notre Dame remains the sole independent in the rankings.
Upcoming matchups include No. 4 Ohio State against No. 5 Indiana and No. 2 Notre Dame against No. 8 BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium, marking the first-ever top-10 matchup at that venue.
