A flood warning was issued for portions of central Utah following excessive rainfall. The National Weather Service Salt Lake City stated that flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas was imminent or occurring.
The warning applied to south central Carbon County, northwestern Emery County, and southeastern Sanpete County. According to emergency management, multiple instances of flooding were reported in Orangeville along Cottonwood Creek.
Radar estimates indicated up to 2 inches of rain had fallen, with the heaviest rainfall occurring updrainage from Castle Dale, Huntington, and Orangeville. The warning was extended primarily due to continued flooding in Orangeville.
Locations identified as being at risk for flooding included Huntington, Wellington, Sunnyside, Clawson, Castle Dale, Ferron, Orangeville, East Carbon, Cleveland, and Elmo.
Authorities advised that most flood deaths occur in vehicles and urged people to turn around rather than driving through flooded roads.
