Canyonlands National Park has implemented an immediate temporary closure of The Needles district due to the progression of the Babylon Fire. While the fire is located within Bears Ears National Monument near Blanding, Utah, it is not currently burning within Canyonlands National Park boundaries.

The Manti-La Sal National Forest issued Closure Order #04-10-26-05-01 on June 28, 2026, to protect public health and safety during active wildfire operations. This order affects Bears Ears National Monument and the Dark Canyon Wilderness in the Monticello Ranger District.
In San Juan County, the Sheriff's Office has announced several road closures to ensure the safety of the public and fire personnel. Closed roads include North Cottonwood Road, Causeway Road, Bridger Jack Road off Highway 211, and the junction of Kigalia and North Ridge toward Big Notch.

As of June 28, 2026, the Babylon Fire has grown to 16,201 acres and has 0% containment. The fire is experiencing greater than typical growth for the area and time of year, with active torching, spotting, and creeping fire reported.

Fire personnel are currently employing a full suppression strategy to protect infrastructure, structures, and other values. Total personnel on the incident includes 68 individuals.

Weather conditions remain a concern for fire management. Forecasts indicate low humidity levels in the single digits to low teens and afternoon wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph. No wetting rains or thunderstorms are expected within the next three to five days.
