The Rocky Canyon Fire has reached 77% containment according to an update from Utah Fire Info. The fire is currently estimated at 15,950 acres.
Firefighters are actively focused on suppression efforts and are working to strengthen and reinforce containment lines in and around Bishop’s Canyon. Following successful firing operations, crews are also concentrating on repair activities to address damage from suppression efforts and minimize potential soil erosion.
Firefighters continue to patrol, monitor, and mop up around the edge of the fire. While some areas of the fire remain very active, crews are also focused on repair in other areas. Smoke levels were reported as minimal in the morning, though visibility may increase throughout the day as temperatures rise.
Officials are reminding the public to stay alert on the roads. With local schools returning, there is an expected increase in morning and afternoon traffic, including school buses and students walking or biking near roadways. Drivers are advised to allow extra time and to slow down in school zones.
In an undated notice from Summit County, officials stated there are currently no evacuation orders or advisories for Summit County related to the Rocky Canyon Fire near East Canyon. However, SR 65 closures remain in place as a precaution.
Fire resources are staging in Henefer to allow for easier access to the incident site.
