Ongoing fiber installation activities in Logan Canyon along US-89 and SR-243 are moving toward a scheduled completion in the fall of 2026. Project officials reported that work resumed this April following a brief winter pause and is currently progressing smoothly.
Construction activities will be paused from 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 through 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 to accommodate increased traffic during the Bear Lake Raspberry Days celebration. During this specific period, all travel lanes will be open.
Crews are currently performing junction box installation and drilling operations. This work is progressing incrementally down the canyon toward Logan City on a weekly basis. Current lane closures are located at Milepost 472.8 to 474.5 near Temple Fork/Rick Springs and Milepost 481.25 to 483.25 near Franklin Basin Road.
Drivers should expect additional delays due to heavy traffic flow through the canyon during the summer. While no shoulder work is scheduled for next week, travelers should remain alert for intermittent work areas. The project utilizes one-way traffic systems to manage vehicle flow through work zones. Drivers using turnouts are advised to wait until they see vehicles traveling in the same direction as their destination before re-entering the travel lane.
Safety warnings have been issued for cyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers due to trenches, uneven road surfaces, and loose gravel throughout the corridor. Cyclists are reminded to stay out of active work zones near the mouth of the canyon, which contain heavy equipment and active operations.
Key project milestones and statistics include the installation of 325 junction boxes and approximately 28 miles of conduit. The project also involved 700 feet of directional drilling under the Logan River.
