Centennial Middle School recently reviewed several student activities and academic projects across various subjects. The review highlighted hands-on learning and skill development in classrooms ranging from science to digital literacy.
In ELA classes led by Ms. Haw and Mrs. McCormick-Danielson, students are choosing from three creative project options to demonstrate their understanding of The Crossover by Kwame Alexander. These projects allow students to analyze characters, examine themes and important events, and use textual evidence to show comprehension skills.
Math students in Ms. McAdams’ class are exploring translations and reflections of shapes on coordinate planes through collaborative problem-solving and self-assessment. In science, Ms. Neeley’s Science 7 students are designing, building, and launching rockets to explore scientific concepts through hands-on learning.
Digital literacy students under Mr. Ngatai are learning to create pixel art using Google Sheets by examining examples and non-examples to understand success criteria. In French DLI 4, Ms. Laro's students are working on grammar and translation skills by converting English sentences into French using individual whiteboards for immediate feedback.
In Utah Studies, Mr. Smallcanyon’s students participated in a pioneer trek simulation to experience Utah history through experiential learning. Additionally, Centennial completed an evacuation drill to practice safety procedures and ensure readiness for emergencies.
College and Career Awareness students participated in a session with Timpview High School Medical Anatomy students, who introduced the middle schoolers to suturing techniques to provide a glimpse into healthcare careers. World Language teachers were also noted for engaging in reading time to model the importance of literacy.
Centennial school families were notified to look for upcoming weekly announcements and a videocast from Dr. Edwards.
