A federal judge has ruled that Utah is permitted to enforce its anti-gambling laws against the prediction market Kalshi and other prediction markets, according to a report published August 4.
The ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by Kalshi against several Utah officials.
In a statement issued August 4, Governor Cox characterized prediction markets as gambling that causes harm to American families.
Cox noted that the ruling affirms that Utah's anti-gambling laws are an appropriate way to protect citizens and are not preempted by federal law. The Governor expressed gratitude to Attorney General Derek Brown and his team for defending the state's laws.
Governor Cox stated a commitment to continuing work to protect Utah families.
