Two Heber City men were killed in a head-on collision near Jordanelle State Park early Monday morning after a vehicle veered off the road and into oncoming traffic on State Route 32, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Details of the Collision
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:44 a.m. on August 3, 2026, near milepost 8 on State Route 32 in Wasatch County, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. A white Toyota Camry was traveling northbound toward Francis when the driver left the roadway to the right. The vehicle then turned 90 degrees and crossed back into the oncoming southbound lane, where it was struck by a Jeep Wrangler.
Casualties and Injuries
The impact between the Toyota Camry and the Jeep Wrangler resulted in a collision on the passenger side of the Toyota. Both the driver and the passenger of the Camry sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, the Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed.
While the Toyota occupants were killed, the driver of the southbound Jeep Wrangler sustained only minor injuries. Medical personnel treated the Jeep driver at the scene, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Victims Identified
The Utah Department of Public Safety later identified the two victims of the crash as Saul Lopez Garcia, 47, of Heber City, Utah, and Eduardo Rodriguez Sanchez, 23, also of Heber City, Utah. Both men were occupants of the Toyota Camry at the time of the accident.
Crash Location and Cause
The crash took place in the Rock Cliff area of Jordanelle State Park. According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Eddie Wright, the driver of the Camry had overcorrected after initially leaving the roadway, leading to the fatal crossing into the southbound lane.
Investigation Status
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision was handled by the Utah Highway Patrol following the incident on August 3.
