Skyridge freshman Jraice Finau shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, to lead the Falcons to a fourth-place finish at the Region 3 boys golf tournament. The team achieved a combined score of 293 at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course in Orem.
Lehi won the tournament with a score of 281, followed by Corner Canyon with 284 and Lone Peak with 287. American Fork completed the five-team field in fifth place with a total of 303.
Finau placed fifth individually to pace the Skyridge team. Junior Landon Makin recorded the second-best score for the Falcons with a 73, while senior Tanner Porter followed with a 74. Three Skyridge golfers tied for 75 to finish the team's counted total: junior Klive Fuhriman, junior Hayes Mauss, and sophomore Beckham Bell.
Other Skyridge contributors included sophomore Bridger Warr, who shot a 76, and sophomore Dylan Hymas, who shot a 78. The tournament result marks an improvement for Skyridge, which previously sat fifth in the Region 3 team standings during the regular season.
Finau has maintained consistency throughout the season, carrying a 70.5 stroke average over eight weeks of Region 3 play. He also previously shot a 71 at Riverbend Golf Course in Riverton on Sept. 21, a meet where Skyridge finished fifth with a 296.
Skyridge previously competed in the Region 3 match play tournament during the final weeks of the season. The Falcons advanced past American Fork in a scorecard playoff on Sept. 24 before losing to Lehi 4.5-3.5 in the semifinals on Sept. 28. Match play results do not count toward state standings.
The Falcons are scheduled to compete in the 6A State Tournament on Monday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Talons Cove Golf Club in Saratoga Springs.
