The BYU women's soccer team secured the Big 12 regular-season title following a 1-0 victory against Arizona State on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026. The win at South Field also provided a platform to honor head coach Jennifer Rockwood during a Senior Night celebration.
Senior Bella Woods provided the winning margin with a free kick strike in the 68th minute. The victory ensures the Cougars enter the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Rockwood, who announced her retirement at the start of the season, has led the program to 18 regular-season championships across four conferences during her 32 years at the helm.
During the pre-game ceremony, BYU President Shane Reese honored Rockwood, describing her as a coaching legend and a legendary human being. The university also announced the creation of the Jennifer Rockwood Endowed Soccer Scholarship Fund, a $500,000 donor-funded endowment intended to support deserving student-athletes in honor of her legacy.
The match was significant for the Cougars as they needed a win to clinch the regular season title. The team currently holds a 12-3-3 record and is ranked No. 13 in the country. Rockwood marked the occasion by wearing an all-black track suit provided by women's track coach Diljeet Taylor, fulfilling a promise to let Taylor dress her for her final regular-season home game.
BYU is scheduled to face No. 8 seed West Virginia in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium in Mansfield, Texas, on Monday at 1 p.m. MT.
