Fire is exhibiting catastrophic behavior as predicted southern winds push the flames north along the forest boundary. Due to the rapid growth of the fire, officials stated it is too dangerous to position firefighters in front of the blaze and that current conditions and weather predictions suggest no amount of resources will stop its forward progression.
The Northern Utah T3 Team is currently focusing on protecting life and safety while working to secure resources around structures and infrastructure. Coordination with local government and agencies is underway to identify values at risk in this dynamic situation.
Residents in areas east of I-15, specifically from Fillmore to Kanosh, are urged to be diligent. Officials have requested that people stay out of the area east of I-15 and avoid driving on I-15 unless necessary. The Sheriff will be issuing evacuation level notifications via IPAWS to phones in the area.
Individuals with health concerns or those who may feel unsafe are encouraged to evacuate when they are comfortable rather than waiting for an official notification.
While no structures have been lost thus far and firefighters managed to keep the fire away from structures overnight, residents should expect to see an incredibly large plume and dark skies. Authorities expressed awareness of the scary situation and the impact on local communities, stating they are doing everything possible to maintain safety.
