This means 1,206.1 square miles of the lakebed currently sit exposed.
According to Grow the Flow Utah, the current water level is 7.7 feet below the minimum healthy level. The organization noted that the lake's natural elevation is approximately 4,207 feet. As the lakebed is exposed, it increases the risk of dust storms and reduces available habitat for wildlife.
Ecological Importance
The Great Salt Lake's water levels have long been a point of concern for Utah's environmental health. Data from the Grow the Flow Utah tracker, which monitors the lake's status, indicates that the lake's South Arm is measured from the USGS monitoring station at Saltair Boat Harbor.
