News Article Viewer - Posted: 09/01/2026Police DepartmentUnity, Remembrance & SafetySeptember is a month of changing seasons, new routines, and an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the safety and well-being of our community. As children return to school, community activities increase, and fall approaches, the Washington City Police Department encourages everyone to slow down, stay alert, and look out for one another. September also gives us an opportunity to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.We remember the victims and the families who lost loved ones. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and ordinary citizens who responded with courage and compassion. We also remember what followed. Communities came together. Neighbors helped neighbors. People looked beyond their differences and stood together during an extraordinarily difficult time.That spirit of unity remains important today. At the Washington City Police Department, we are grateful for the community we have the privilege to serve. The trust and partnership between our officers and the people of Washington City are among our greatest strengths. Public safety is a partnership. It is built every day when neighbors look out for one another, when residents share information, when parents teach their children about safety, and when our community works together to solve problems.
