The undefeated BYU football team remains 6-0 after securing wins against No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 25 Arizona. According to an October 20 report, the Cougars face a demanding remaining schedule to maintain their perfect record.
The most difficult remaining game for the Cougars is scheduled for Nov. 7 against rival Utah. The Utes are also 6-0 and ranked No. 10 in the nation. BYU has won three consecutive games against Utah, including the last two seasons since the Utes joined the Big 12. The report notes that the winner of this matchup may have an inside track to the Big 12 championship game.
Other significant challenges include a road game against UCF on Oct. 24, where BYU is favored by 6.5 points. On Oct. 31, the Cougars will play Arizona State on the road. The remaining schedule also includes a game against Kansas on Nov. 21, and the season finale against Cincinnati on Nov. 28 at home.
The Cougars will also face Baylor, led by quarterback DJ Lagway. Baylor is currently 4-2 and recently handed BYU's opponent, TCU, a 17-6 loss. While TCU has stumbled against North Carolina and UCF, they remain a dangerous team. The report identifies Baylor as a potential threat to the BYU record.
BYU's undefeated start includes wins over highly-ranked opponents. While the Cougars have already handled No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 25 Arizona, the difficulty of the remaining six opponents is being examined by analysts.
