Basin Recreation Invites the Community to a Facility Preview and Launch of ‘Better Basin’ Initiative on July 8

Incorporating community input from open houses in May, updated plans for new facilities will be showcased. Funding strategies and a potential bond on the November ballot will also be discussed.
Park City, Utah (June 25, 2026) – Snyderville Basin residents are one step closer to year-round indoor recreation facilities following the May open houses, where community members shared input on how Basin Recreation can better meet the area’s growing recreation needs. In response to that feedback, on July 8, Basin Recreation will launch its “Better Basin” initiative and showcase ‘The Community’s Vision for Recreation’ with more detailed plans for two new recreation facilities proposed at the Silver Creek and East Canyon properties.
Residents of Snyderville Basin will have three opportunities on July 8 to join drop-in-style Facility Preview sessions and engage with Basin Recreation staff:
8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. — Matt Knoop Memorial Park, 4056 Shadow Mountain Drive, Park City
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. — The Fieldhouse, 1388 Center Drive, Park City
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. — Trailside Park Administrative Building, 5715 Trailside Drive, Park City
Artist renderings of the two facilities and programming concepts are among the visual materials that will be displayed during the Facility Preview. Basin Recreation staff will share bond information, including potential annual household property tax contributions. They will also present expanded programming to meet expressed needs for bigger, more diverse facilities. Targeted surveys will follow the session to collect specific feedback on the project direction.
“This is truly a community-driven initiative,” said Basin Recreation’s Executive Director Rob Parrish. “We’ve heard that residents commonly experience limited availability and overcrowding at The Fieldhouse and that our community lacks the year-round programming and activities found in comparable communities. We are excited to share plans that address these needs while preparing for future growth in a way that reflects residents’ priorities and supports the active lifestyle that makes Snyderville Basin such a special place to live.”
Plans for the new facilities have been shaped by more than 1,400 survey responses during the May open houses, in addition to the statistically valid survey responses collected in 2023. Here’s what the community has said through those engagement opportunities:
Community demand is real and growing. Residents reported regularly encountering overcrowding and limited availability at the existing Fieldhouse, with many saying they use the facility less than they’d like or seek alternatives elsewhere as a result. The need for new facilities is recognized, and the community is ready for solutions.
Fitness, aquatics, athletics, and climbing top the community’s wish list. Fitness spaces for cardio and weight training, indoor pools, rock climbing, indoor turf, and courts consistently ranked among the amenities residents most want to see included — cutting across age groups and representative neighborhoods.
Both proposed sites have meaningful community support. Residents expressed genuine enthusiasm for both the Silver Creek and East Canyon properties, with proximity, access, and potential for future growth among the top reasons for their location preferences.
What’s inside the buildings matters. Residents made clear that the specific amenities included in the final program will be a key factor in their decision — making the next stage of public engagement an important step in showing the community how their feedback has shaped the design.
“Given the recognized limitations of indoor recreation offerings, the 4,631 approved new residential units planned for the Snyderville Basin that will place additional demand on The Fieldhouse, and Basin Recreation’s high Moody’s rating and ability to secure a low interest rate, we believe now is the right time to present a bond measure to voters this November to fund these thoughtfully planned facilities,” Parrish said.
