Nebo School District is bringing a football rivalry to the lunchroom this Friday, Nov. 6, through a special tailgate lunch event. Students across the district's 47 schools will use chip flavors to predict the outcome of the upcoming Saturday game between the BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes.
Predicting the Big Game
The district-wide event aims to capture the excitement of the BYU vs. Utah rivalry. To participate, students will make their predictions by selecting from two specific chip varieties during lunch. Choosing Cool Ranch Doritos serves as a vote for the BYU Cougars, while selecting Nacho Cheese Doritos represents a vote for the Utah Utes.
Tallying Student Predictions
Following the lunch period, the district plans to tally the results from all 47 schools to determine which team the student body predicts will win the big game. The initiative encourages students to come prepared for the festivities by wearing their team colors to school.
Districtwide Celebration
The event is being organized by the Nebo School District to celebrate the intense competition between the two schools. According to district communications released on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, the tailgate lunch is designed to bring the spirit of the rivalry directly to the students.
Compliance with Utah Law
The district noted that all food provided for the event will comply with Utah Law HB 405. As a result, the chips used for the prediction activity do not contain any food additives or artificial food dyes.
Participating Schools
The tailgate lunch event is being implemented across various locations within the district. Participating schools include the Advanced Learning Center in Salem, Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Apple Valley Elementary in Santaquin, Springville Junior High School in Springville, and Art City Elementary in Springville.
