Author Shannon Hale visited students at Forbes Elementary to discuss the journey of becoming a published author, according to a November 2 statement. The visit was part of an effort to honor literacy through the support of the Alpine Foundation, Operation Literacy, and Utah Humanities.
During the visit, Hale spoke about the challenges of the writing process, including receiving more than 80 letters of rejection. Every student present received a signed copy of one of her books.
Teachers at the school noted that following the visit, students were so focused on reading Hale's book that they were unable to engage in regular classroom activities that afternoon.
