Every fall, the Utah State Library Division presents the Utah Quality Library Awards to libraries that go above and beyond for their communities.

How do public libraries earn this award?

Libraries qualify for this award during their annual recertification. Public library systems across Utah participate in an annual recertification process with the Utah State Library. This yearly review verifies compliance with state statutes, ensures adherence to foundational library service requirements, and confirms that institutions satisfy necessary funding criteria. The Utah Quality Library Award is based on “… the transformational, ‘extra mile’ services that dedicated library staff provide to their local communities,” says Merrily Cannon, library development program manager at the Utah State Library.

“The Quality Library Award highlights how a public library stays attuned to its community, using local insights to tailor services, operations, and programs to meet resident needs,” explains State Librarian Cara Rothman. “These efforts demonstrate the staff and board’s commitment to the thoughtful, responsible stewardship of public funds.”
