The Ivins City Arts Commission met on June 10, 2026, to address several community art initiatives and administrative matters, according to meeting minutes released August 13.
During the meeting, the commission unanimously voted to recommend Josie Brzenk for appointment to the Arts Commission. Brzenk, who was recommended by Mayor Kevin Smith, possesses professional experience in social media, communications, and public relations.
The commission discussed several upcoming programs and exhibits. Kathy Smith reported that applications were submitted for two Utah Division of Arts and Museums traveling exhibits: The Pen is Mightier: Writing a Revolution, requested for February 2027, and Navajo Children: Weaving the Future, requested for October 2027. These exhibits would be displayed at City Hall for approximately three weeks.
Discussions also covered Heritage Days, including plans for an art exhibit, a trench art display, and participation in the Heritage Days parade. Additionally, members reviewed the June 4 Block Party and the completion of the roundabout art project.
Regarding the Arts District, the commission discussed mapping and signage updates, noting that the city's sign ordinance will require updates before the project can proceed. Liz Fortney provided an update on recruiting community members for the Arts District Committee following interest shown during the June 4 Block Party.
The commission also moved to support the It's a Wrap project at the Utah Veterans Home. This project involves wrapping five utility boxes with artwork featuring patriotic and military themes. The commission voted to pay artists a $500 stipend if the artwork covers an entire box, with the amount divided if multiple artists are featured on a single box.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on the Living Artfully blog and updates regarding the Kayenta Arts District name on the online map. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for August 12, 2026.
