Morgan and Ogden High School semifinalists faced losses during the 3A girls tennis state championships held on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at the Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. According to a October 3 report, the tournament proved difficult for local contenders as several top seeds were eliminated.
In the doubles division, Morgan's No. 2 seed pairing of junior Devaney Barney and sophomore Taylen Adams lost 7-5, 6-2 to No. 3 seeds Annie Pearson and Brekyn Larkin of American Heritage. Morgan's senior doubles team of Chloe Dutson and Rylee Telford also fell in the semifinals, losing 6-0, 6-2 to Rowland Hall's Ada Tyser and Fiona Kean.
In singles, Morgan's Vyvian Bailey, the No. 2 seed in first singles, finished her junior campaign 36-21 after losing 6-0, 6-3 to Grantsville's Mya Orgill. Sophomore Sage Ordyna, the No. 3 seed in second singles, finished with a 42-24 overall record after a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Grantsville's Annalee Nelson. Ordyna noted the importance of separating emotions from the game during the tournament.
Ogden's sophomore Bernice Winn, the No. 4 seed in third singles, reached the semifinals in her state debut. After defeating North Sanpete's Claire Pehrson and overcoming Juab's Peyton Lynn 6-4, 7-5 on Friday, Winn fell to Rowland Hall's No. 1 seed Avalon O'Connell 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday. Winn finished her season with a 36-4 overall record for the Tigers.
Adam Belnap, a parent-volunteer-coach for Ogden, said Winn showed good power and an all-around game against a tough opponent. He noted she has significantly improved to take the third singles position.
The Ogden tennis program experienced an unconventional season following an early coaching change that occurred in August.
State championship action continues at the Liberty Park Tennis Center with the 6A Round of 32 scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, followed by the 4A matches on Friday, Oct. 9.
