Lehi senior Brielle Adams has won 11 consecutive Region 5 Varsity Girls mountain biking races, according to an October 7 report by the Alpine-Highland-Lehi Tribune. Adams has won all three races held this season and maintains a perfect 900 points in the standings.
The streak has placed Adams at the center of a tight five-point battle involving three area high schools.
The competition for the top spot is closely contested. Skyridge junior Pepper Smith sits in second place with 896 points, while Lone Peak's Brynn Lloyd holds third with 895 points, according to the Lehi Free Press. Smith has been closing the gap through consecutive races.
Adams' recent victories include a time of 1:13:34.75 at Beaver Mountain on Aug. 22, 1:03:57.76 at Richfield on Sept. 5, and 1:06:30.68 at Panguitch on Sept. 26. Smith's performance has improved from a third-place finish at Beaver Mountain in 1:15:11.14 to second-place finishes at both Richfield and Panguitch.
While Adams has achieved individual dominance, the Lehi Pioneers team results have trailed. The Pioneers have finished fourth in all three Region 5 Division 1 events. Lehi's strongest team performance occurred at Beaver Mountain, where the team scored 4,503 points.
Adams contributed 300 points during that outing, supported by sophomore Max Glade with 290 points and sophomore Grant McRae with 287 points. McRae and Glade are also competing individually in the boys JV A division. McRae is currently fourth with 862 points, trailing Spanish Fork's Braxton Mabey, who has 865 points. Glade sits in fifth with 859 points.
The regional standings and the boys JV A race are expected to be decided during the final regional event and the state championship course. One regional race remains before the Utah state championships are held.
The three-way battle among the girls and the boys JV A race will be settled at the upcoming regional event and the state championship.
