Utah Connections Academy has announced the graduation of 117 students in its Class of 2024. The tuition-free online public school held a virtual graduation ceremony featuring student and staff speakers, recognition awards, and a slideshow of graduates from across the state.
School leader Erin Taylor stated that the Class of 2024 worked hard to achieve the milestone and is equipped with the skills to make a difference in the world. Taylor noted her pride in the graduates' educational and personal journeys and expressed interest in supporting their future endeavors.
Among the graduates is Arub Kaleem, a Sterling Scholar and National Merit Scholarship finalist. Kaleem, who served as president of the school’s student-run broadcast club and secretary of the National Honor Society, utilized the school's AP classes and career planning opportunities. Kaleem expressed interest in working in the healthcare industry, specifically in cardiology or neurology, by applying technology to solve everyday problems.
Aspen Downing, the valedictorian for the class, was recognized as a Sterling Scholar and the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship from a local university. Downing, who has earned 26 college credits, intends to become a labor and delivery nurse. Downing credited the school's teachers for being supportive of student goals.
Utah Connections Academy provides students with general courses in math, science, and language arts alongside various electives. The school aims to prepare students with real-world skills, social skills, emotional strength, and critical thinking abilities.
Now in its 13th year, Utah Connections Academy serves more than 1,200 students in grades K-12 statewide. The school is an accredited, tuition-free online public school authorized under state law by the Utah State Charter School Board. It offers flexible learning plans designed to match individual student needs, serving a diverse student body that includes those who are academically advanced, those in traditional settings, or those experiencing health challenges or bullying.
