Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish commemorated the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Deacon Stan Stott with a special Mass on Oct. 28. The ceremony took place in Midvale and featured tributes from several priests regarding the deacon's ministry.
Father Gregorio Rausseo, the parish pastor, presided over the Mass while Deacon Stott served as the Deacon of the Mass. During his homily, Father Rausseo spoke of the deacon's humble service over 50 years, recalling how Deacon Stott was patient while helping him learn English and adapt to ministry in the United States. Father Rausseo stated that the deacon's support was a gift and a sign for him.
Several priests with close ties to the deacon participated as concelebrants. Father Martin Diaz, a retired priest of the diocese and former pastor of the parish, noted that the community gathered because they appreciate the ministry and life of Deacon Stott. Father Andre Sicard, a parochial vicar at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, described the deacon as a bridge between the sanctuary and the world, noting that Deacon Stott demonstrates what it means to be a servant through patience and showing up for people.
Other tributes were provided by Father Samuel Dinsdale, the pastor of Saint Vincent de Paul Parish, and Father Jose Barrera-Hernandez, the pastor at San Felipe Parish in Wendover. Father Dinsdale shared memories of visiting parishioners with Deacon Stott in his old Toyota 4
Runner, while Father Barrera-Hernandez remarked that the deacon manifests service through his very being. To mark the occasion, Father Rausseo presented the deacon with a framed papal blessing on behalf of the parish.
The Mass was attended by Deacon Stott's wife, Alice Stott, and featured several clergy members including Father Jose Barrera-Hernandez, who served as a former administrator at St. Therese.
