Weber State men’s basketball secured a 90-76 exhibition victory against Division II visitor Colorado Christian on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. The win marked the first game under new head coach Kaleb Canales for the Wildcats.
Rice transfer guard Aaron Powell led the scoring with 20 points in 13 minutes, shooting 5-of-7 from three-point range. Other contributors for WSU included St. Louis transfer Dylan Warlick, UNLV transfer Mason Abittan, and Utah transfer Alvin Jackson III, who each recorded 10 points. Freshman Chamberlain Burgess contributed six points and eight rebounds, while Augustine Ekwe added nine points and four rebounds before fouling out in 11.5 minutes.
Despite a slow start where the Wildcats went 2 of 15 from the field and trailed 6-5 at the 15:05 mark, WSU took an 8-6 lead following a three-pointer by Burgess. The Wildcats extended their halftime lead to 42-28 and maintained a margin of 15-20 points for much of the second half. The game featured 45 total fouls and 58 free-throw attempts, with WSU shooting 65.6% from the line.
Coach Kaleb Canales stated that while the performance was not perfect, the team showed flashes of the high-level offense and defense he seeks for the conference. The Wildcats were voted to finish eighth in both the coaches and media Big Sky preseason polls. Montana State was selected as the No. 1 team in both preseason polls.
In the preseason all-conference team, Northern Colorado’s Langston Reynolds was named preseason MVP. Other members include Jed Miller, Ethan Potter, Andrew Cook, Alton Hamilton IV, Jaiden Feroah, and Koren Johnson.
Weber State will host Westminster at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The team will conclude its preseason schedule against Colorado Mesa at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
