Davis School District Superintendent Dr. Dan Linford has been named the 2026 Utah Superintendent of the Year by the Utah School Superintendents Association, an honor presented during a surprise ceremony at Syracuse High School. The recognition follows a keynote address delivered by Linford during the district's Summer Leadership Conference.

The award was officially announced by the Utah School Superintendents Association on Aug. 2, 2026, and confirmed by the Davis School District on Aug. 3, 2026. The annual distinction is awarded to a superintendent who demonstrates excellence in educational leadership, commitment to student success, and respect from colleagues, educators, and community members throughout the state.
Visionary Leadership Cited
Dr. Lexi Cunningham, the executive director of the Utah School Superintendents Association, praised Linford for his visionary leadership and dedication to strengthening public education. Cunningham noted that Linford's impact has been felt both within the Davis School District and across the state of Utah through his integrity and innovation.
A Collaborative Achievement
Linford, who has served as the Davis School District superintendent since July 2022, expressed that the honor was particularly meaningful because it came from his professional peers. He remarked that leadership is never an individual accomplishment, attributing his success to the collaborative work of teachers, principals, district leaders, board members, and community partners.

Career and Educational Background
Linford is the 19th superintendent to lead the Davis School District. A graduate of Clearfield High School, his career in education began in 1999 as a high school English teacher. He later transitioned into administration, serving as an assistant principal at Viewmont High School in 2006, and then as its principal in 2011. Before being appointed superintendent by the Board of Education, he served as a secondary director starting in 2016.
National Recognition Ahead
Linford holds a bachelor's degree in English teaching from Weber State University, as well as a master's degree and a doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy from the University of Utah. Following this state-level recognition, Linford will move on to represent Utah as the national superintendent of the year named by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.
