Moran Research and Surgical Expertise Highlighted at AAO 2026

John A. Moran Eye Center physicians and scientists will share research, surgical knowledge, and clinical expertise at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2026 annual meeting, October 9-12 in New Orleans.
Moran is represented across the meeting through scientific presentations, panels, instructional courses, hands-on skills transfer labs, and on-demand research. Topics span glaucoma, cataract surgery, retina, uveitis, oculoplastics, and pediatric ophthalmology, along with global eye health, physician well-being, mentorship, and sustainability in ophthalmic surgery.
Moran faculty represented in the program include Ike Ahmed, MD; Paul S. Bernstein, MD, PhD; Craig J. Chaya, MD; Griffin Jardine, MD; Robert Kersten, MD; Marissa Lacochelle, MD; Jeff Pettey, MD, MBA; Akbar Shakoor, MD; Brian Stagg, MD, MS; Srav Vegunta, MD; and Liliana Werner, MD, PhD. Residents Nadim Azar, MD, and Shima Dehghani, MD, are also contributing to the program.
The contributions range from research on new approaches to glaucoma and retinal disease to instruction in cataract surgery, anterior segment reconstruction, oculoplastic procedures, and other surgical techniques. Moran experts will also contribute to discussions on global eye health, reducing surgical waste, and supporting the well-being of ophthalmology trainees.
AAO’s annual meeting brings together ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals from around the world to share research and advance the knowledge and surgical skills that improve patient care.
