Governor Kevin Stitt welcomed governors from across the nation to Oklahoma City for the 2026 National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Meeting. The event highlighted Oklahoma’s leadership and commitment to advancing the American Dream.
During the meeting, governors participated in a historic Common Ground town hall with Governors, which was hosted in partnership with NBC News. The event facilitated a national conversation regarding issues significant to Americans.
Governor Stitt stated that serving as chairman of the National Governors Association has been an honor and noted that governors coming together is increasingly important. He remarked that disagreement is not necessarily the problem, but rather whether leaders are willing to continue talking, suggesting that handled correctly, disagreement can make the country stronger.
The Governor emphasized the role of the NGA as a model for cooperative federalism, where states collaborate and exchange ideas to develop solutions for their citizens' unique needs. Stitt noted that there is no one-size-fits-all approach for a diverse country and stated that America succeeds when states lead.
Governor Stitt also debuted a new film titled Reigniting the American Dream, which explores the promise of opportunity in the United States and the role of states in preserving that promise. He stated that the American Dream remains alive and that the next 250 years will depend on the ability of free people to come together, debate ideas, and solve problems.
