The 2026 Stansbury Days Triathlon and 5k run took place on Saturday, Aug. 15, featuring the same point-to-point swim, bike, and run courses that were first introduced in 2025. The athletic events, held in Stansbury Park, included a sprint triathlon and a 5k run that utilized routes around Stansbury Lake.
Triathlon Race Details
The triathlon competition featured a chip-timed format for high accuracy, with timing chips worn on either ankle. The swim portion consisted of an open-water course in Stansbury Lake, utilizing the point-to-point layout established in 2025. According to the Stansbury Improvement District, the swim featured two wave starts: Wave 1 for men at 7:05 a.m. and Wave 2 for women at approximately 7:10 a.m. While wetsuits were permitted for the swim, the use of other swim-aid devices, such as snorkels, paddles, fins, or life jackets, was prohibited.
Cycling and Running Courses
The cycling portion of the triathlon was described as a fast out-and-back course. Competitors traveled through Stansbury Park on Delgada Lane and Village Boulevard before heading onto the country roads of Erda. The route included a slight elevation gain of approximately 60 meters on the way to Erda, followed by a slight descent back into Stansbury Park.
The running course for both the triathlon and the 5k run wound around Stansbury Lake. To ensure athlete safety, the race organizers prohibited the use of strollers and dogs on the run course. Course arrows were marked 7 to 10 days prior to the event to allow for practice of the routes.
Registration and Participation
The 5k run held its start at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Registration for the 5k and the triathlon was capped for the triathlon at 125 participants due to limited transition space. Registration for both events closed on Aug. 12, the deadline for all participants, as no race-day registration was permitted.
According to RunnerCard, the registration data showed 85 participants for the sprint triathlon, 14 for the sprint triathlon relay, and 26 for the 5k run. Registration pricing varied based on residency and timing; for instance, Tooele County residents could register for the 5k for $25 if they did so before July 4, while the price increased to $35 after that date. Non-residents faced higher fees, such as $30 for the 5k through July 4 and $40 after July 4.
Logistics and Race Day Prep
The event included a packet pick-up held on Friday evening, Aug. 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The pick-up and triathlon body marking took place in the grassy area between the Stansbury Improvement District building and the Stansbury Skate Park, located across the Mill Pond Bridge from the Stansbury Park Clubhouse.
On the morning of the race, participants were instructed to park at Porter Way Park and walk or ride to Solomon Park for race check-in and transition setup. Organizers issued a notice for participants to avoid parking along Delgada Lane to ensure the road remained clear for racer safety. Timing chips were distributed exclusively on the morning of the race.
Awards and Ceremony
Following the completion of the races, an awards ceremony was held at the Porter Way Park pavilion. The ceremony was scheduled to begin between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., once the majority of participants had finished. The event included post-race food for the competitors.
Awards were designated for the top three overall finishers for both men and women in the triathlon and the 5k run. Additionally, top age group finishers were recognized during the triathlon ceremony.
Community Context
The Stansbury Days Triathlon is part of a broader community effort, with Stansbury Park participating as an official America 250 participant, a nationwide celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary of independence.
The triathlon and 5k run events have continued to evolve, with the 2026 event utilizing the updated swim, bike, and run courses that were introduced in 2025 following positive feedback from previous participants.
Participant Benefits
All participants in the 2026 event received a race bag, a lightweight athletic t-shirt, a finisher medal, and post-race food. The organizers noted that while extra shirts were ordered, those who registered after July 31 were not guaranteed a specific size or shirt availability.
