American Fork advanced to the 6A state semifinal round following a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Corner Canyon on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026. The victory was fueled by critical defensive plays from freshman goalkeeper Sofia Crowley and scoring from senior leader Cambree Ballard.
Freshman goalkeeper Sofia Crowley made two penalty kick saves during the match, despite the official stat sheet recording only one. After an initial save was discounted because officials determined she moved off the line, Crowley successfully blocked a second attempt during the 75th minute to help secure the lead. Coach Tara Warner noted that while Crowley does not have the best size for a goalkeeper, she compensates with an ability to read the ball and make big stops.
Senior Cambree Ballard scored both goals for the Cavemen to secure the win. Her first goal came from approximately 25 yards out on a free kick midway through the second half, while her second goal occurred during a breakaway in the 72nd minute. Ballard stated that the team focused on staying composed in the second half after Corner Canyon controlled much of the momentum in the first half.
This victory marks the first time American Fork has reached the state semifinals since 2023, when the team reached the state championship match before losing to Lone Peak.
American Fork is scheduled to face rival Lone Peak in the 6A state semifinal round at Zions Bank Stadium.
