Governor Cox announced that firefighters made progress on the Johnson Canyon Fire, bringing containment to 65% as of yesterday. Despite this progress, conditions across Utah remain extremely dangerous due to extreme fire behavior and rising temperatures.
The Widemouth Fire has experienced extreme, wind-driven behavior, resulting in a push of nearly 10 miles toward Fillmore. Additionally, Red Flag conditions persist in parts of southeastern Utah where temperatures are climbing above 100 degrees.
Governor Cox expressed gratitude to the firefighters and first responders working around the clock to protect Utah. The Governor noted that the best way to support these responders is by preventing new fires.
Officials are asking the public to avoid anything that could create a spark, to follow all fire restrictions, and to stay alert to help prevent new fires.
