In Nevada, the Hawk fire, located 5 miles north of Reno, has burned 15,067 acres and destroyed 48 structures. As of the August 25 report, the fire has an 85 percent containment rate and has incurred costs totaling $6,685,511.00. Fire behavior was described as minimal around the perimeter, though smoldering and creeping were observed.
Other significant Nevada incidents include the Oxley fire 5 miles north of Wells, which has burned 9,500 acres with 5 percent containment, and the Juniper Ridge fire 10 miles northeast of Winnemucca, which has burned 1,200 acres. The Sombrero fire near Winnemucca has reached 11,000 acres with 20 percent containment, while the Bug fire near Cold Springs has burned 93,733 acres with 97 percent containment.
In Utah, the Black Canyon fire near Price has burned 3,264 acres with 87 percent containment, with total costs reaching $16,900,000.00. The Rocky Canyon fire near Henefer has burned 16,464 acres with 96 percent containment and has destroyed 2 structures. Additionally, the Widemouth 2 fire near Kanosh has burned 129,741 acres with 93 percent containment.
In Idaho, the Tartar fire near Weiser has burned 158,027 acres with 98 percent containment and has destroyed 10 structures. The Wildhorse fire 10 miles north of Kimama has burned 21,862 acres with 0 percent containment, while the North Heglar fire near Pocatello has burned 1,844 acres and reached 100 percent containment.
The report notes that drought, hot, and dry conditions through the summer have contributed to fire behavior and resistance to suppression efforts.
