The Huntington City Council has approved Ordinance No. 4-2026, which introduces restrictions on secondary water use and prohibits the outdoor use of culinary water within the city. The measure was passed during a regular meeting held on April 14, 2026.
According to a certificate of posting by City Recorder Brandy Wagner, the ordinance was enacted in response to severe drought conditions that have resulted in a reduced secondary water supply.
The City Council stated that these temporary conservation measures are necessary to ensure equitable distribution and continued service. The council also found that the restrictions are required to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
In addition to establishing conservation measures, the ordinance provides for enforcement and penalties regarding the use of water within Huntington City.
