No. 11 Utah withstood a late rally from Colorado to secure a 27-24 victory in a game that ended early Sunday, according to a report published October 18.
Devon Dampier threw three touchdown passes to lead the Utes to the win, which improves the team to a 6-0 record. The victory marks the first time Utah has started a season 6-0 since 2015.
Utah entered the game as a 15-point favorite and held a 13-0 lead at halftime. During the first half, Colorado recorded 82 penalty yards compared to only 70 total yards.
In the second half, Colorado quarterback Isaac Wilson, who previously started seven games for Utah in 2024, helped the Buffaloes narrow the deficit. Wilson finished with 256 yards and two touchdowns, pulling Colorado within a field goal with 1:21 remaining. The Buffaloes offense recorded 324 of their 394 total yards in the second half.
The game concluded with late drama when a review ruled an illegal forward pass during a pitch from Wilson to Quannell Farrakhan Jr. This penalty moved the ball back and negated a potential long field-goal attempt. The Utes defended a final pass attempt to secure the win.
Utah coach Morgan Scalley stated that while the win was not always pretty or clean, the team did enough to succeed. Dampier threw for 278 yards and two touchdown passes to Braden Pegan, though he also recorded two interceptions.
The Utes currently hold a 12-game winning streak dating back to last season, which is the longest active winning streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision following losses by No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 5 Indiana on Saturday.
Colorado, now 2-4 and 0-3 in the Big 12, suffered their fourth consecutive loss. Coach Deion Sanders noted that while Wilson put the team in position to win, the team must improve beyond a one-man performance. The Buffaloes were penalized 10 times for 93 yards during the game.
Utah is scheduled to host No. 20 Houston on Saturday. Colorado is scheduled to play at No. 18 Oklahoma State on Saturday.
