The Utah Utes will debut new hand-painted helmets during their matchup against Kansas, according to a report published October 6. The design transforms the program's whiteout theme into a detailed winter landscape through custom artwork.
Artist Armando Villarreal painted the helmets, which feature a white shell with several winter-inspired elements. The Utah script serves as the focal point on the sides of the helmet, utilizing red lettering edged with a frosted white treatment. Icicles extend beneath the mark to create the appearance of lettering caught in a freeze, providing contrast against the white shell.
The design includes snow-covered mountains wrapped around the lower portion of the helmet. Gray shading is used to define the ridges and rocky faces of the landscape. This mountain artwork continues around the back of the helmet to maintain the theme beyond the side graphics.
The rear interlocking U logo also features a winter treatment, including white speckles across the red mark to suggest falling snow. Villarreal used shading, texture, and highlights to integrate the frosted script, mountains, and snow effects into a consistent visual story.
The hand-painted execution aims to keep the program's red identity prominent while introducing detailed artwork that rewards closer inspection of the helmet's whiteout theme.
